The wind swept across the snow line of Nyenchen Tanglha, carrying the story of this string of bone beads far away.
It was once the backbone of the yaks on the plateau, accompanying the herdsmen through the cold nights of minus thirty degrees Celsius on the pastures where prayer flags fluttered, and through the gravel and ice rivers. Later, the old craftsman rubbed it with butter and strung it into one hundred and eight prayer beads. Each crack contained the humming sound of the prayer wheel, and each twisting was a dialogue with the snow-capped mountains.
The turquoise Buddha's head is bathed in the blue of the sacred lake. Three-eyed sky pearls lie among the beads, like eyes hidden in time, having seen the long heads of pilgrims and heard the whispers of mani piles. Now it is in your palm, a token from the plateau - with the tenacity of a yak and the protection of a sacred mountain, it turns all your troubles into the tenderness of time for you.
